When Thinking Stops Helping

Sheila

So many people I talk to are stuck turning a business decision over and over in their mind, convinced that more thinking will finally produce the answer. I want to tell you what actually broke that loop for me, and it's something that I've leaned on for the last five years. It's not another framework. It's simpler than that actually. And it might just be the thing that you try this week instead of having one more hour in your head.

Inside-Out Success And The Mini-Sode

Sheila

Hi, welcome to the podcast. I'm Sheila Botelho, and I believe true success is built from the inside out. This mini sode is designed to help you live into what lights you up this week.

Why The Mind Starts Circling

Sheila

So something that has been on my mind lately is how many times we can try to think ourselves into a decision. And then we find the more we think, the further away the answer gets. Now I'm a deep thinker. I always have been. Everyone knows that about me. And there's genuine value in taking a beat, going inward, unplugging from the noise and the plethora of voices, telling you what to do. But I've learned over and over that my mind has a limit. It can only take me so far before it starts circling instead of moving forward. Can you relate?

Bringing The Body Into Decisions

Sheila

The thing that has been so groundbreaking for me over the last five years is bringing my body into the process. My CEO soul walk first thing in the morning, most days, is when I work things out while I move, while I'm in nature. Sometimes on a treadmill, if the weather isn't great, sometimes bouncing on my rebounder, but usually outside. Even a slow walk gives me something that my mind alone never could. Clarity arrives. The extraneous stuff tends to fall away. And what's left is what actually matters. Your mind is built to make decisions, and it's also built to protect you from the discomfort of moving. It will keep you thinking long after thinking has stopped being useful. Because thinking feels safer than action. And your body doesn't know that trick. Your body will tell you the truth faster than your head ever will. And boy, have I learned that lesson in recent years.

One Aligned Action To Try

Sheila

So if you're in a season right now where you're turning something over and over, a decision, a next step, a version of yourself you're trying to grow into, here is what I invite you to try. Take it out of your head for a minute. Take a walk, move. Let your body finish what your mind started. You already know more than you think you do. And sometimes it just takes getting out of your chair to find it. So I invite you into one aligned action this week. The next time you catch yourself circling a decision, stand up and go for a walk, even if it's just through your house or through your office, before you go for one more hour of thinking. Let me know how that goes for you. Thank you for listening.
