Ever look back at your past self and think, Wow, I can’t believe I used to think that way? That’s not something to be embarrassed about—it’s proof of growth. The most successful people in business and life aren’t the ones who rigidly stick to one path forever. They’re the ones who allow themselves to evolve, change their minds, and redefine success as they go.
In this episode, I take you through the decades of my own evolution—how my 20s were about figuring things out, my 30s were about creativity and responsibility colliding, my 40s were about radical shifts and deep loss, and now, in my 50s, I feel more in alignment than ever. Through it all, the core of who I am has stayed the same, but how I express it? That’s changed—and that’s the key to long-term success.
If you’ve ever felt stuck in an identity or business model that no longer fits, this episode is for you. You’ll walk away with full permission to pivot, adapt, and lean into what truly lights you up. And if you’re ready to take this deeper, check out The Embodied Success Method in the show notes below—it’s designed to help you move into your next season with clarity and confidence.

The most successful people, the ones who create lasting impact, are the ones who aren't afraid to change their minds, the ones who allow their perspectives, their priorities and even their businesses to shift as they grow. And I know this personally because my own evolution has been anything but linear. Hi, welcome to the Connect with Sheila Botelho podcast. I'm a self-care strategist and success coach, and I'm committed to helping you reconnect to your purpose, elevate your wellbeing and build your version of a happy, successful life. Here's something most people don't realize the essence of who you are, your values, your integrity, your heart. That remains like that stays with you, but how you embody those things shifts as you gain experience through your life. Let's take loyalty, for example. In my 20s I thought loyalty meant standing by people, no matter what, whether it was in relationships, friendships or even business partnerships. But by my 40s I had learned that real loyalty isn't about staying in places that no longer serve you. It's about being loyal to yourself first, so you can show up fully for the people who truly align with you. It took me a while to learn that one. So often we hold onto old definitions of things because we're afraid to outgrow them, but I've noticed that growth really requires redefining what truly matters to us. As I look back on the decades, I see how each decade had specific things happen, and there were certain areas of growth that I stepped into. For instance, in my twenties, I was really hungry to find my place in the world. I was diving into personal development, working in a startup and figuring out who I was in relationships. I ended up getting married and started building a business with my husband, and while I was passionate, I was also winging it. I was in my 20s, so I thought success was about doing more, learning more, proving myself, being everywhere all at once, and while that drive was powerful, I was also running myself into the ground, trying to keep up and also comparing myself a lot with the other successful people around me, not really looking at what innately made me special in my own way that I could go after and use in a beautiful way.
Sheila:In my 30s, creativity and responsibility really collided, because it was all about expansion. I started writing, I got involved in nonprofit work, I launched a brand, I started a family, and it was a decade of saying yes to creative pursuits but also learning how to balance personal and professional growth, and I learned that my success wasn't just about me anymore. It was about my family, my legacy and the people I was impacting, and I started shifting from doing everything to doing what actually mattered. When I hit my forties. That was a decade where everything I thought I knew got flipped upside down. If you've been following my story, you probably know some of the pieces of that story. I explored a new business model that ended up flopping. It turned out to not be the thing that was for me. I'm still happy that I went after that, though, because I was curious and I would always probably wonder what would have happened if I hadn't done it.
Sheila:I also started home educating my kids, and then one of the biggest shifts was when I had to say goodbye to my sister. Losing her changed everything for me. It forced me to look at what I was doing and ask is this really how I want to spend my life? And fortunately, there was a lot that I was doing that I really still loved and that was really clarifying for me. And then I saw some things that I knew were not meant for me anymore. That turned out to be mostly in the form of relationships, and that's when I dove fully into the online space. I started surrounding myself with entrepreneurs who were running businesses of all different sizes in all different fields, running them their way, and I realized I had permission to do things differently too. I launched my podcast, I said goodbye to old business models that no longer fit, and eventually I also had to say goodbye to my parents with oh my goodness, such a full heart, and that was another deep reminder that life is too short to build something that doesn't fully align with who you are.
Sheila:And then came my fifties. That's where I'm at now, and I feel like I'm stepping into the most unapologetic version of myself. I'm working in the tech space, coaching high-level entrepreneurs and serving a wider range of clients than ever before. And the best part I no longer feel like I have to prove myself. I've let go of the pressure to fit into someone else's definition of success. I know my strengths, I know my values and I trust that, as the world keeps evolving, I get to evolve too. And what's really cool about that is I actually have taken more of a learner's stance than ever before, because I want to grow and change. Even though I'm in my 50s. I'm not entering into every day thinking I know everything. I'm entering into every day with an excitement to see what I can learn, and it's often from people much younger than me, which is really cool.
Sheila:Now this brings me to you. There's this idea in our culture that if you pivot, if you change your mind, you're flaky or inconsistent. But think about it. Would you trust a doctor who was still using methods from the 1980s? Would you take business advice from someone who refused to adapt to the digital world? No, you wouldn't, because growth requires change.
Sheila:Every experience, every challenge, every success, every season of your life depends on your understanding of who you are and what you're meant to do.
Sheila:Your definition of success will evolve, your business will evolve, and that's exactly how it should be. So if there's something in your life right now that doesn't feel aligned anymore a business model, a relationship, a way of working it's okay to let it go, because what's waiting for you on the other side of that decision? That's where your next level lies. So here's my question for you today what is something you've changed your mind about in the past 10 years and how has it shaped who you are today? I'd love to hear from you, dm me or comment with your story and if you're ready to step into this next season of growth with full alignment. Check out the show notes for details on the embodied success method and my guided meditation that goes along with it to help you reconnect with your vision, because your evolution isn't something to fear. It's your greatest advantage. Thank you for listening. I hope you have a beautiful rest of your week. Be blessings you.
