How many times have you heard the phrase
“How much do you really need?”—as if wanting more somehow makes you ungrateful? I used to believe that too. I was surrounded by people who subtly encouraged me to stay where I was, even though I knew I was meant for more. And for a while, I let that mindset hold me back. I questioned whether my ambitions were too much or whether I should just be happy with what I had.

But here’s the truth: Wanting more isn’t about greed—it’s about growth. It’s about recognizing that your potential isn’t just for you, but for the people you’re meant to serve. When we shrink ourselves to make others comfortable, we don’t just limit our own success—we limit the impact we could be having on the world. What if, instead of asking “Can I?”, you started asking “How far can I go?”

In this episode, we’re breaking down the guilt and conditioning around ambition and replacing it with a mindset that allows you to step fully into your power. Because the world doesn’t need you playing small. It needs you showing up fully. Let’s talk about what it means to own your ambition, unapologetically.

Sheila:

Have you ever felt like wanting more made you ungrateful, like you should just be happy with what you have? Well, I used to believe that too, until I realized that playing small wasn't serving anyone. I believe that your ambition isn't selfish it's necessary. Hi, welcome to the Connect with Sheila Botelho podcast. I'm an entrepreneur, self-care strategist and creator of the Seasoned Self-Care app. I'm committed to helping you reconnect to your purpose, elevate your wellbeing and build your version of a happy, successful life. You're listening to a mini-sode where I share an insight designed to help you live into what lights you up this week.

Sheila:

Have you ever felt guilty for wanting more? Like you've already got a good thing going, so why rock the boat? Well, I used to feel the same way. I had reached a level of success that many people strive for, and I was surrounded by voices well-intended ones. They kept reinforcing the idea that I should just be happy with where I was. But I found something happened. I realized that contentment and ambition are not opposites. You really can love what you have and, at the same time, know that you're meant for more. And yet, at least in my case, I was conditioned and I believe many women are conditioned to believe that wanting more means we're ungrateful, that if we dream bigger, we're somehow selfish. But what if it's actually the opposite? What if not stepping into our full potential is actually the selfish act?

Sheila:

I remember a turning point in my own journey when I realized that question how much do you really need wasn't just limiting. I found it was actually deeply flawed because that saying assumed that success was just about me, that my business, my income, my work was just for my own personal gain. But when I looked at it differently, everything changed. I started asking something different. Instead of asking how much do I need, I started asking how much impact can I make? And that shift cracked something open in me, because I know that when I reach new levels of success, it's not just my life that changes, it's the lives of the people I'm here to serve and the people who are in my life, and I believe the same is true for you.

Sheila:

So today I want to leave you with this. If you've been holding back shrinking yourself because you're worried about what others might think, I invite you to ask yourself what if this isn't just about me? What if your growth, your success, your expansion is exactly what someone else needs to see to believe it's possible for them too? And what if? What you have to share is truly something that is going to help so many more people than you ever could imagine? Everybody has their own vision for their life and different levels of success, and what success actually looks like looks different for everyone. I invite you to really consider, though where are you holding back and are you, and what would it look like if you stopped holding back? Who would be positively impacted If today's episode spoke to you?

Sheila:

Don't just let it sit. I invite you to take action. I've put together some simple, powerful ways to help you step into your next level without hesitation. So head over to the show notes for all the details and let's get you moving toward the success, impact and freedom that you know you're meant for. And also drop me a text message.
