Sheila:

I really want to be a part of shifting culture, for conscious business to be done in the world, for us all to be supporting each other, elevating each other and living the dreams that we have in our heart from a place of collaboration. Hi, welcome to the Connect with Sheila Bi podcast. I'm an entrepreneur, self-care strategist and creator of the Season's Self-Care app. I'm committed to helping you reconnect to your purpose, elevate your wellbeing and build your version of a happy, successful life. Something that lights me up is connecting with people. That really helps me feel like I'm living this successful life is the connections that I make in my world, the relationships that are built over time and the new friends that I make along the way, and the reason why I'm talking about that is this episode is all about how to create space for reflection and connection in your business. It's not one or the other, it is both reflection and connection in your business. It's not one or the other, it is both. And this solo chat is all focused on some of the practices that I love to take into account when I'm getting ready for and then after.

Sheila:

I have been at some live events, and I had the pleasure of being at the High Vibe Women event in Kitchener, ontario, canada, over the weekend, and there was a VIP night in Waterloo also, and so special shout out to the High Vibe Women themselves Christina Bartold and Maria Tazi. It's just so interesting to see what happens when we put an idea out into the world of what we want to see and what we want to experience, and what they wanted to see and experience was more of these events happening north of the border. It's been really wonderful getting to know them, as they have been attending other events in the States. They decided, hey, let's start replicating this and creating something even beautiful, new, unique in this region, and so I'm really grateful for that, because, as a result, I've been able to meet and connect with many new people in this area from a variety of businesses. So a special thank you. And there were beautiful speakers on stage, people who had six, seven, eight figure businesses, who were speaking from their wisdom of how do we do business in this age as women, as high vibe women, how do we actually grow in all the different ways that are coming up before us, everything from social media marketing to SEO, to the inner work that we need to be doing and the mental shifts we need to be having.

Sheila:

It was really beautiful and the space was set up amazingly, and so one thing that I found when I was getting ready for this is I really was dropping in, like it was on my calendar, I was looking forward to it and I was really dropping into. How did I want to feel at this event? And you know, we think about, oh, what are we going to wear and what's the timing going to look like, and how will we figure out the rest of our life and how we fit things in on our schedule. That's just always the way, especially if you are someone who is not solo in life. You have either a significant other, a partner, kiddos, people who are counting on you, and so, as a result, it really got me thinking about the different things that I like to do to get myself ready and primed for these events, because I always want to get the most out of them, and the way I do that initially is thinking about I want to be really present while I'm there about I want to be really present while I'm there. So a lot of the preparation for these events actually comes down to being prepared in your home life and in your work life, and so I looked at how, even though it was going to be like a Friday evening and a Saturday event, I really started to think about how did I want the few days prior to that to look? So what I did was I took my calendar and I front end loaded it with the priorities that I needed to do that week, and I made sure I did those right off the bat. And then anything else that was left over for the week that maybe was not as urgent, I left for later on in the week, so that if I had the time and energy to attend to those things, I would, and if I didn't, it would be fine to push them to the following week or the week after, even. And what that did was that gave me some mental space to really feel into what did I want to get out of this event, what did I want to put into it as well?

Sheila:

Because I really believe when we go to these events, it's not so much about just receiving, it really is giving. It's giving of our own time, our presence, perhaps our expertise, but more than ever, it is about your energy, because an event, if you've felt, when you walk into a room, a specific type of event, you get the vibe right. You really get what is the vibe that's present when you were there. Is it one of excitement, anticipation, is it one of enthusiasm, or is it one of apprehension, right, or is it kind of like a lower key vibe? And we need all the vibes. We're human, however, when we're going to an event, especially a High Vibe Women event, we want to make sure that we are dialed in to who we truly are and we're also feeling the release to be able to show up really present in our own best energy, because that's going to be a blessing to the people there as well. And, of course, you'll be a lot more receptive to the things that you're learning when you're able to be present and when you're more relaxed and calm.

Sheila:

So some of the things I did, in addition to the scheduling and the calendar, was I really took some extra time to get outside. I ironically, did not have a whole lot of time to go for my extra long walks, specifically on the day of the first day of the event, but I did make sure I did it. I did make sure that it was even like a 15-minute jaunt around the block, because I knew that that would really bring me into the presence, get my energy flowing, and understanding that when you're going to events, there typically can be a lot of sitting right, like you're sitting to listen to something and then you stand and have a stretch break but then you're sitting again and you're driving to the event. And so if you're used to like being at a standing desk or being able to take a lot of breaks like I'm able to running up and down stairs, getting out for walks being an event where there's a lot of sitting, it can really start to get to your energy and, frankly, even just make you feel like you need to stretch right. So I made sure that I got out and I also made sure that I made space by preparing everything ahead of time for the next day, like what I was going to wear, any little snacks I wanted to take along for the drive, thinking about what was going to happen after I got home, having everything set aside my clothes, whatever the case so that I could get up early enough on the Saturday to get ready in a relaxed way after getting out for a walk, and it was a really beautiful thing. I had a more leisurely experience on the Saturday morning.

Sheila:

So these are things. Maybe we don't talk about a whole lot, we just kind of take them as a no brainer, like, yeah, of course we have to do these things. But if you're like me or past me, sometimes these things get so rushed and then you end up feeling frazzled, rushing to an event, getting there right on time, or maybe a little bit late even, and not in the energy that you really want to be in when you are meeting with these people and in this beautiful space that you've been anticipating being in, and so that's why I share the preamble. How is it that you best show up for various events, whether the ones you're putting on or attending, and this translates to all areas of our life. Hello, family gatherings. Sometimes we need to get a little extra time for our extended family gatherings to get our mind right so that we know that when we're showing up, we're showing up as the person we want to show up as, and that means pouring into ourselves first, whether it's meditation or a walk or really nutrition, eating properly before we go.

Sheila:

And so next, I really wanted to talk about this community piece, right, so networking and attending events, so crucial for all of us, but especially for female entrepreneurs, because we get to learn and grow from each other. We get to create long-term connections. This is what I find in the female entrepreneur space. I think back to like almost a decade online and, even though I made these connections online, I'm still in touch with these wonderful humans. Women typically will collect relationships and nurture them over time, and this is something that is really a superpower of ours. So making sure that you are really being intentional with these connections that you're making from the start to the finish is so powerful. So I always make sure that I am ready to have ways to connect with the people, to meet them at first, and usually it was really just by asking good questions and listening.

Sheila:

My whole goal when I go to events like this, other than being filled up by the beauty of the stories and the inspiration of what people have already achieved and are in the midst of achieving, is really to get to know some new people and really listen to who they are, what they're doing in the world. You know, I don't know about you. Sometimes in this world of business, where you need to market yourself, you kind of get tired of telling your story, right, so I love asking people about theirs and, of course, I have a little snippet of okay, here's who I am and what I do, if someone doesn't know me. But the beautiful thing about this event and again, christina and Maria, they put together so many beautiful elements to this One thing they did was, on the name tags, there was actually a QR code that led directly to people's Instagram, so you literally just had to take a picture of it and then you had immediate access to be able to connect, and you had the choice of whether or not you wanted to do that, of course, but it was really a beautiful way to connect. And then I already had on my mind okay, I do want to connect with these people afterwards and stay in touch. It's one thing to just show up and have a great time and then weeks or months go by and, oh right, what was that person's name again? Oh no, they were doing something so cool in the world. So I already had time set aside on my calendar for the days following the event to be able to reconnect, and it didn't take long, right? Especially if you had their DM handle already. You could just like go and DM them, and so that was really beautiful.

Sheila:

And again, this all stems back to, though, what is the end goal, and for me, just as this podcast does and all of my work, it's about elevating the collective. I really want to shift culture, or be a part of shifting culture, for conscious business to be done in the world, for us all to be supporting each other, elevating each other and living the dreams that we have in our heart from a place of collaboration, right, no competition allowed, collaboration only. I believe we all do raise each other up, and so your energy becomes very important, and so, as I mentioned, the energy of how you're taking care of yourself before and after is really important. So I mentioned those kind of little practices of beforehand. Even down to when I'm driving there in my car, I have my high five music on. I mean, this is just me. I don't know how you start your day. I have the playlist going, and what was so fun was, while I was at this event, songs would come on. I'm like, oh, that's on my playlist. I heard that earlier, and it just gets you in this vibe right and you get to move and enjoy, and it just is very, very grounding, and that is the key being grounded before you're entering high energy spaces.

Sheila:

Now I say this as being someone who loves people, loves groups. I also love my solitude. I need it. We all do need to recharge. And then there are those people who want to go to these events to make the connections. But it is more challenging to be in the energy of a lot of people and maybe they just want to meet one or two people and that is their limit. So I really want to honor you if that is you, to be in business and to have a really growing, thriving business. You don't have to be a massive extrovert. You just need to follow certain principles and practices, and one of them is connecting with people, but you get to do it in your own unique way.

Sheila:

Something at the High Vibe Women event that Christina and Maria put together was they had a special room like a chill room I forget what they called it especially. They also had a 360 photo booth that I didn't get into. I'm kind of bummed that I didn't get into that another time. Hopefully there'll be another event with one of those. It looked so fun afterwards when I was seeing people's pictures, but they had a really beautiful relaxation vibe room so you could go and you could take yourself out of the big group of people and relax. You could still hear what was going on, but there were couches. It was just. It was stunning, and so, of course, I'm going to tag them here so you can go. Take a look at their socials. You'll see some beautiful reels. I'm going to be sharing a reel also on my Instagram so you can see some of the experience.

Sheila:

But that's important knowing okay what is your capacity and honoring it and don't blow past it, because what ends up happening then is you can go overboard and then by the time you have gotten home and moved on into the next week, you're exhausted and maybe shut down, and so the value you could have gotten from the event and really connecting with the people is not what you could have gotten from the event, and really connecting with the people is not what it could have been. So know your limits and honor them, because all of us are different and I realize I'm very high energy type of person typically and I love being in groups and that is not everyone, and it's okay. You get to embrace who you really are. So the last thing that I wanted to touch on was what do you do after these events? I already mentioned scheduling time to reconnect, but even more important is to spend time with you and maybe have that scheduled for yourself A special time where you can get quiet with a cup of tea and a journal and maybe write down some of the things that really impacted you. Or maybe you're going to voice note it while you're driving home from the event. That's often what I will do because I don't want to miss things. That's just me. I've got so much FOMO in my own thoughts sometimes. But what's even more powerful is the next day after sleeping on it, the things that download to you sometimes while you're sleeping, being able to go out on a walk and voice note for yourself or like, maybe do a journal entry over some nice tea or coffee and really get some journal prompts going so that you can really gain clarity on some of these new relationships and opportunities that you may be able to step into. Really sharing your personal process for yourself about how you're doing this is powerful because then you can use this for future events. It's so, so important Staying in touch, following up all those kinds of things. Yes, those are business practices, but always remember to follow up with yourself.

Sheila:

How did you feel about it? What would you learn from this event that you could carry into something new? Is this an event you'd want to attend again? Certainly all of us have been to events where we realize, okay, I'll never get that time back. Maybe this was not the event for me. That's okay. I always manage to glean something from every event and conversation and sometimes you learn the things not to do right. Fortunately, that was not the case with me this past weekend. I have to say recent events I've been to have been just over the top fantastic and I'm just really grateful to have so many of these wonderful people doing this work so that we can just effortlessly step in and connect with people.

Sheila:

Because, let me tell you, putting on events is a big deal. It takes a lot of energy, it takes some risk Investing in the rooms and all of the preparation and all of the food, everything right and then thinking, oh, please, let everyone come right, selling tickets, it's no joke. My past experience in the personal development space I was also doing this. I was renting hotel ballrooms and planning events and it was that feeling of okay, this is a lot of effort. I hope everyone comes and you're negotiating packages and then the day of the event comes and did everyone show up to help you out? Like is the team there? Does everybody have what they need? Is the technology working? That's today right? So these are the things that we can very easily take for granted, and so showing up for them and being a part of them is so powerful, but always knowing that your presence and the way you show up at the events and then afterwards in reflection is incredibly, incredibly powerful. So I really encourage you to look around at what is happening. What are the new events happening in your space? Because this is growing and growing.

Sheila:

In our post-pandemic world, people are wanting to have more connection, and so look around, see what's happening in your world. I'm going to tag this event. They have another event happening in March, so you can check that out. They've opened doors for that, for early bird pricing, and I just really invite you to consider your own energy, no matter what room you're stepping into. It could be a boardroom, it could be a doctor's office where you need to advocate for yourself. It could be your teenager's room, where you need to have some difficult conversations, perhaps, and know that you always get to start with your own energy, and that will lead the way. So thank you so much for listening, for interesting online rooms that I'm creating for you.

Sheila:

Sheila:
