The Blind Stigma with Stacy-Ann Buchanan - Episode 229
The professional career path of Stacy-Ann Buchanan provides an enriching meaning to the term ‘career pivoting’ - making a purposeful, intentional, strategic shift that enhances one’s career.
Stacy-Ann started out as a professionally trained theater and film actress in numerous theater productions, commercials and films to her credit. In 2012, she created, produced and launched The Mystic Effect, A creative arts show that embodies music, poetry, dance, fashion and film. The success of the show prompted her to establish her own production company - Stacy-Ann Buchanan Productions, which led to her receiving the Entrepreneur Award at the International Women Achievement Awards.
The Blind Stigma as a recognized brand, has since branched out into a podcast that continues to explore such stigmas, dissect the multiple factors that aid towards mental illness in the Black communities and provides a safe space for stories to be heard.
Her body of work has firmly focused her career on challenging anti-Black systemic racism by taking holistic approaches to demystify and decolonize how mental health is perceived and addressed within the Black/BIPOC communities.
We talked about:
- The story behind her creating The Blind Stigma film
- Removing the veil of shame that clouds the topic of mental health in the Black community
- How she approaches self worth
- Boundaries that keep her grounded
- Directing positive dialogues and creating safe spaces for Black voices to be amplified
